Last week’s Super Lap Battle saw plenty of records fall, some of them years old. In street front wheel drive, Ken Suen improved his previous time of 1:58.9 set at a Redline event in 2013 with a 1:55.602, driving the “hellahellafunctional” Godspeed/Sportcar Motion Big Red Honda Civic:
Only three other street FWD cars have ever gone sub-2:00 in a time attack event, with Clint Boisdeau holding the previous record of 1:59.0 in his Ford Focus for two years until Ken came along.
In RWD class it was a close battle between previous record holder Rob Walker in the Evasive Motorsports S2000, which turned a 1:51.777 to beat last year’s time and previous record of1:53.990. However, Rif Dagher in the Platteform A.G. C7 Corvette managed to better them by 7/10ths, setting a new street RWD record of 1:51.089.

Last year at superlap, Brian Bengali in the Massimo Power EVO edged out Mark Jager by less than 2/10ths to win Street AWD and set a new record of 1:53.068. Naturally, Mark and Yimisport did not want that to happen again and made a lot of improvements to the car over the last year. The result was 1:52.7 at a Redline event in August to take the record back. Not content, new aero bits and some other improvements were done, which resulted in a 1:50.206, which is the fastest any street class car has gone by a long shot.
