Willow Springs top 20 update

This weekend was the first Global Time Attack event, and my time attack records list has a couple of new updates:

New additions are in bold. The GST Impreza cranked out a 1.19 and Mike Warfield says the car is only running at a portion of it’s full potential due to the drastic changes made this year. They were only able to run two hotlaps the entire weekend and will surely go much faster once the crankcase scavenging, aero, and suspension are sorted out. Plus the car was running on a low boost setting all weekend. Chris Rado improved on his time in the FWD Scion by a few tenths and also ran a few laps in the AWD car during a NASA session. JC Meynet set a new record for Modified/Limited class, beating the time set by the Cobb GTR last year at Redline Time attack. Dr. Russ Warr also improved on the previous fast time set by James Elterman in the LIC Motorsports car.

Willow Springs Top 20 Time Attack Cars

THIS POST IS OUT OF DATE. Please go here:

http://hellafunctional.com/?p=490

I tracked down all the time attack results since 2007 thanks to Mike Bonnani (you got BONNANIED!) who’s in charge of the course records section on the time attack forums and has kept impeccable records since the start of time attack in the US. Nik Malechikos of Redline also provided me with all the records he has personally and on the redline website, so now I have everything I need to make make lists of all the fastest times put down in Time Attack. I’m visualizing a database that you can search by track, date, driver, class, etc, but until that’s done here’s another top 20 list, this time from Willow Springs International Raceway. Like before I’ve omitted all but the fastest time put down by a specific time, with one exception where the LIC car ran in unlimited class with a different driver at subiefest a few years ago and got itself pretty far up the list, even though it’s normally a mod car.

1 – 1:18.555 – Billy Johnson – FXMD NSX – U-RWD – RTA 2009
2 – 1:20.454 – Jonathan Bomarito – SSE EVO – U-AWD – RTA 2009
3 – 1:20.759 – Jeff Westphal – GST Impreza – U-AWD – RTA 2010

Buttonwillow Top 20 Time Attack Cars

I’ve recently noticed that it is very hard to track down results and times from past Time Attacks, especially the Redline events. Buttonwillow is what many consider the most important venue for time attack in the country, and you would think it’d be easy enough to find a database of lap times from there. Turns out such a thing doesn’t exist, so I’ve set out to create one. Eventually it will be a separate page outside of this blog with all the times for all time attack events since 2007 or so, but until then here’s what I’ve managed to dig up tonight. Since so many cars have run at different events with different drivers, I’ve omitted all but the fastest time by a specific car. If I noted, for example, FXMD’s fastest time for every trip out, they’d be on the list 5-6 times. So here’s the top 20 at Buttonwillow CW13:

1:40.986 – Tyler McQuarrie – FXMD NSX – unl rwd – SLB 2011
1:41.046 – David Empringham – Sierra Sierra EVO – unl awd -SLB 2010
1:43.523 – Nobuteru Taniguchi – HKS EVO – unl awd – SLB 2007
1:44.372 – Tarzan Yamada – Cusco/Tomei STI – unl awd – SLB 2008
1:44.586 – Jeff Westphal – GST Impreza – unl awd – SLB 2010
